Financial inclusion goes beyond access to credit. It becomes meaningful when women entrepreneurs are able to run their businesses with confidence and control.
Vijaya Jaiswal, a 28-year-old kirana store owner from Tilda Nevara, Raipur, faced a common but costly challenge – managing small cash denominations. Lack of change often meant turning customers away or absorbing small losses every day. Though she had heard of UPI, limited familiarity with digital tools kept her from using it independently.
Through Kushal Udyogini’s enterprise Digital capacity-building program, Vijaya received practical, hands-on training on digital payments as part of a joint workshop with her microfinance institution. She learned how to set up UPI, link her bank account, and use digital payments confidently for both receiving customer payments and paying suppliers.
Today, Vijaya accepts digital payments for even the smallest amounts, has eliminated cash-related losses, reduced disputes through clear payment records, and seen increased customer footfall. She also repays her loan instalments regularly using UPI, without the stress of handling or safeguarding cash.
This is what enterprise development looks like in practice – building capability that strengthens businesses and deepens financial inclusion.
